possible mistake in transcription done by Ancestry.com shows - in the 1890 St.
Louis Directory, a man named Henry Thien is listed as the a Superintendent of
the First District Street Department, residing at 2800 Ohio Avenue and a man
named John H. Thien is listed as being a tanner and living at 3516 N. Second
Street.

Family : Henry, or a man by the same
name, is mentioned in the estate settlement of John B. Thien, who died in 1899
in St. Louis. What relation these
two men had is not known, perhaps they were brothers or cousins. A man named Henry Thien, presumed to be
the same man described here signed off on the estate settlement and the funeral
expenses, and payment to ship the body to Defiance, Ohio. He also seems to have inherited some of
the money (about $147,000) and was paid for some services. This huge amount of money in itself,
may indicate that Henry Thien named in the estate is not the same man who is
being described here. John Thien
was a ‘big businessman’ in Defiance, Ohio and was often mentioned in the press
of that town. He ran for City
Council in 1882 in Defiance, and in 1886 was President of the City
Council. His estate settlement
mentions properties in Defiance, Ohio.
