Written by Auntie Bell[xvii]
This should be considered not
only an important document recording significant events in the Webb / Herrick
Families of Huron County, Ohio in the era prior to 1850, but an important
document for womens history studies because it is an example of an early
record that is inherently oriented towards the documentation of woman as the
primary subject. It is especially
valuable because the Federal Census, prior to 1850, recorded only the
head-of-household (which could include widows) but omitted wives, sons,
daughters, or any other free or enslaved inhabitants; their existance only
eluded to by enumeration..
