Private Lewis Elbert Upton, born 1846, of Texas County, Missouri, age not listed, enlisted 12 July 1863 at Fulton County, Arkansas into Company D, Wood's Regiment Missouri Cavalry CSA (originally known as 14th Battalion Missouri Cavalry CSA); is shown as present on the company muster rolls 31 August 1863 through 29 February 1864 and was last paid 31 August 1863 by Lieutenant Thornton.  He subsequently enlisted to, or was transferred to Company C, 8th Regiment Missouri Infantry CSA and appears on a roll of Prisoners of War of Co. C, Eighth Regiment MO INF Confederate States of America, commanded by Captain Wm. Dings, surrendered at New Orleans, LA by General E. K. Smith CSA to Maj Gen E. R. S. Canby USA May 26, 1865 and paroled at Alexandria, LA June 7, 1865. Notes : June Elizabeth is listed as Lizzie in her father's pension affidavit and as Liley Helderbrand on Vivian's birth certificate, but what also should be noted about that document is the many misspellings that appear in it. For instance, Vivian's father William, is listed as being born in Kantuckey. W. H. Dabney, known as Henry, had a brother named Willard, who owned a farm near Salem, Missouri; had daughters Ruth and Alpha.  Violet Dabney married Walter Koehr (12 October 1905 - 24 September 1988), but may have later divorced.
