Notes : Peter enlisted at Port Andrew, Wisconsin on 9 August 1862 to William Roush for a term of three years. On 14 September 1862 he received a $25 bounty and a $2 premium while at Camp Salomon, Wisconsin.  During the Regiment's famous 300 mile march across Wisconsin and Minnesota, Peter fell ill and was left at Wabashau (sic), Minnesota 12 December 1862 in care of the sick (I think this means he was sick).  The 25th May be among the regiments sent to Minnesota to fight during the Sioux Uprising of 1862. He is marked present on every muster roll, except November and December 1862 when he was sick; and the only other remarks are on 1 June 1864 when he was promoted to rank of Corporal. He was discharged 7 June 1865 at Washington, DC.  Link to Pope County veterans list.

Education : literate

Occupation(s) : farmer

Religion : unknown

Property : homestead
Patentee Name:  Peter Pennie

Acres: (1) 142.22 in Pope County; (2) 39.12 in Pope County

Notes : Peter was the first of his family to move to Minnesota, with the possible exception of his brother Daniel (this point is still unclear to me), having visited Minnesota under less than favorable conditions during his stint with the 25th Regt Wisconsin Infantry sent to fight the Sioux in 1862.  Apparently he liked the land so much that he persuaded the family to move and homestead the new state’s vast wilderness.
