Private (Daisy?) (Davey?) Webb : Webb, aged 21 years, born Genesee County, New York, was described as standing 5’ 4” tall with gray eyes, sandy hair, sandy? complexion, and was by occupation a farmer when he enlisted 6 April 1847 at Ithaca, New York to Lieutenant Sewell for a term of (one year or the duration of the war). He was assigned to Company B, 4th Regiment United States Infantry (regulars). He was discharged 26 October 1847 by reason of a Surgeon’s Certificate on account of disability at Mexico City, Mexico.

Private Daniel C. Webb : Enlisted at Baltimore, Maryland to Marcellus K. Taylor’s Company (F), Lieutenant Colonel George W. Hughes’ Regiment Maryland & District of Columbia Volunteers. Mustered in at Fort McHenry, Baltimore in July 1847; sent to the seat of war and was engaged against the enemy 9 September 1847 in a skirmish at Natural Bridge, Mexico. Age listed as 35 years on 18 July 1848, when mustered out.

 

Private Daniel W. Webb : Webb, aged 24 years, born Steuben, New York, was described as standing 5’ 6” tall, with hazel eyes, light brown hair, a ruddy complexion, and was by occupation a Cabinetmaker when he enlisted 10 December 1838 to Lieutenant Alyers at Albany, New York for a term of five years. He was assigned to Company H, 2nd Regiment United States Artillery (regulars), commanded by Colonel James Bankhead, and then to Company C, 6th Regiment United States Artillery (regulars). He deserted 16 July 1841, was apprehended 2 December 1841, and then deserted a final time on 4 June 1842. No further remarks.

 

Sergeant Darius Webb : He was engaged 8 May 1777, as Sergeant, in Captain Christopher Banister’s Company, Colonel David Weel’s Regiment Massachusetts Infantry. He served a total of two months and seven days on the expedition to defend Ticonderoga, and credited as having traveled 144 miles home, at time of discharge 8 July 1777. He reenlisted 20 September 1777, as Private, in Captain Ebenezer Webber’s Company, Colonel Ezra May’s Regiment Massachusetts’s Infantry. The regiment marched on the expedition to Stillwater, and Darius served 19 days, being credited as traveling ninety miles home, when discharged 4 October 1777. He again was engaged on 21 July 1779 as Sergeant in Captain Benjamin Bonney’s Company, Colonel Elisha Porter’s Regiment Massachusetts Infantry to serve 42 days. His regiment performed service at New London, Connecticut, and was discharged 27 August 1779. In March 1780 he was appointed by the Selectmen of Norwich, Hampshire County, to be a Member of the Committee of Safety for the Town.

He served in the same capacity as Sergeant, again in Bonney’s company, engaged on 21 July 1781, to serve another 42 days. After serving at New London, Connecticut, he was discharged 27 August 1781 and credited as traveling 107 miles in five days time.

Private Darius Webb : Webb, age 26, born North Carolina, was described as standing 6’ tall, with dark eyes, dark hair, a fair complexion, and by occupation a carpenter, when he enlisted on 10 May 1814 to Captain Crawford at Monticello, Virginia for a period of five years or the duration of the war with Great Britain. He was assigned to the 8th Regiment United States Infantry Regulars (Major P. Cooks Detachment). He is reported to have deserted 6 October 1814 from Fort Hawkins, and on a roll dated 16 February 1815, listed as absent. (War of 1812)

 

Private Darlin Webb : He was enrolled in Captain Abram Irving’s Company, 2nd Regiment Rutherford County North Carolina Militia during the War of 1812.

 

Sergeant David Webb : He served in the Army of the United States. He applied for a bounty land warrant on 5 October 1805 for 100 acres which he located in Section 4 of Township 8 North Range 13 West of Cuyahoga & Morgan Counties, Ohio.

 

Sergeant David Webb : Webb, aged 54 years, born in Fairfield County, Connecticut, was described as standing 5’ 11” tall, with grey eyes, grey hair, a fair complexion, and was by occupation a Taylor (sic), when was enlisted, on 20 June 1814 to Lieutenant Lee at Chillicothe, Ohio for the duration of the war. He was assigned to the 17th Regiment United States Infantry Regulars (Captain Harris H. Hickman’s Company) and also served as Sergeant in (Brevet) Captain William Featherston’s Company, (same regiment). He is present on rolls dated to February and on detachment rolls dated 15 March 1815. He was present in Featherstone’s Company 31 May 1815 and was honorably discharged 9 June 1815 at Chillicothe, Ohio.

 

David was perhaps born 19 March 1758 in Stamford and died 23 March 1828 in Ohio, possibly the brother of Sergeant Epenetus Webb, Jr. (Captain Nathaniel Webb’s Company, 9th Regiment New York Militia in the Revolutionary War) and brother to Moses Webb. They might be the children of Epenetus Webb and Elizabeth Lockwood, of whom four of those children served as Patriots in the Revolution or the War of 1812.

 

David applied for and received a bounty land warrant under the ScripWarrant Act of 1812 (#7226) on 6 January 1819, for 160 acres located in Section 12 Township 3 North Range 5 West of Hancock County, Illinois and also received a pension.

 

Captain David Webb : He was an officer in the New York Militia; in 1810 he was promoted to Lieutenant, vice A. Smith who resigned, in Lieutenant Colonel Elijah St. John’s Regiment of Onondaga County Militia. In 1811 he held the same rank in Lieutenant Colonel Thaddeus M. Wood’s Regiment of Onondaga County Militia; and as of 1 April 1812 he may be the same David Webb who was promoted to Captain, vice A. Palmatier, who refused commission, in Lieutenant Colonel Jacob Chandler’s Regiment of Albany County (New York) Militia. He may have performed service in the War of 1812, because he certainly was a commissioned officer during this period, but whether he actually saw any action or was even mustered is not known.

Private David Webb : David, age 25, joined and enrolled 1 October 1847 at Vernon, Indiana, to Captain Hull’s Company (A), 5th Regiment Indiana Infantry, ‘during Mexican War’, mustered in 14 October 1847 at Madison, Indiana; muster roll January & February, March & April 1848 disposition not stated; mustered out 28 July 1848 at Madison, Indiana, last paid to 30 April 1848, stop for 1 pr shoes $1.16, 2 prs socks .48

 

Jefferson County. Mustered in 14 Oct 1847, at Madison, Indiana, by Major Morrison, mustered out 28 Jul 1848, at Madison, Indiana, by Major H. A. Goff.

He was not in Jefferson County in 1850, although there were several other Webb families and individuals present in the county.

 

(Sailor) David Webb : Webb served in the United States Navy on the USS Morris during the Mexican War; applied for a pension 4 May 1887 from Maine (s12142); died 13 November 1918 in Maine.

 

Private David Webb : David Webb, aged 22 years old, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was described as having hazel eyes, dark hair, a fair complexion, stood 5’ 11”, and was by occupation a carpenter when he enlisted 23 December 1840 at Philadelphia to Lieutenant Carleton for a term of five years. He was assigned to Company C, 1st Regiment United States Dragoons. He was reported as deserted on 17 October 1843.

 

Landsman David Webb : David, aged 28 years, born in Portsmouth, Virginia, was described as standing 5’ 4” tall, with a negro complexion, and with no occupation when he enlisted 7 September 1863 at New York (City)?) to the United States Navy for a term of one year. He is recorded on the muster roll of the ‘Kanawha’ on 1 April 1863; the ‘Kanawha’ was a screw propelled steamship, built in 1861/62, 507 tons, mounting 4 guns.

 

Private David E. Webb : Captain Boardman’s Company (F), 3rd Regiment Indiana Infantry; age 22 years, mustered in 22 June 1846 at New Albany, Indiana, for a term of 12 months; appears on muster roll to 31 October 1846 shows he enrolled 8 June 1846 at Columbus, (Indiana); remarks, 1 haversack; muster roll November & December 1846 disposition not stated; muster roll January & February 1847 disposition not stated, remarks ‘stop for 1 pr 1 f shirts’; (age 21 on roll), mustered out 25 June 1847 at New Orleans, Louisiana, clothing account due soldier $42.00, due US for arms & equipments $5.21, stop for 1 cap, 1 w pants, 1 pr shoes, 3 pr socks.

Bugler DeWitt Webb : He was a resident of Belleville, Wisconsin when he enlisted 26 October 1863 and mustered in to Company D, 1st Regiment Wisconsin Heavy Artillery. He did on 24 July 1864 at Ft. Jackson, Louisiana.

 

Hospital Steward Dewitt Webb : Dewitt, aged 25 years, enlisted 2 May 1864 as a Private; promoted to Hospital Steward 13 May 1864 and mustered in to Company K, 151st Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was mustered out 27 August 1864 at Camp Chase, Ohio.

 

Private Dewitt Clinton Webb : Dewitt, aged 44 years, enlisted 12 September 1864 and mustered in to Company K, 174th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was mustered out 28 June 1865 at Charlotte, North Carolina. He was the son of Elisha Webb and Nancy Stebbins; grandson of Jonathan Webb, patriot of the Revolution.
