Military Service : Patriot of the Revolution. He served in Captain Nathaniel Webb’s
Company, Colonel John Durkee’s regiment.
He is listed as Present, with the rank of Private at Valley Forge for
December 1777, in Captain Nathaniel Webb’s Company, 4th Connecticut Regiment,
Rhode Island Brigade, First Division of the Continental Army. He was discharged 31 December
1777. Captain Nathaniel Webb was
Jonathan’s cousin. Connecticut Men
in the Revolution states, “Jonathan Webb, enlisted April 22, 1777, Capt. Webb’s
company. Term 8 months. Discharged Dec. 31, 1777. Fourth regiment, Connecticut Line. In battle of Germantown, Oct. 4,
1777. Fort Mifflin, Nov. 12-16,
1777. Wintered at Valley Forge.”

the Webb Settlement where Ariel’s cousin David Webb settled with his family in
1820, and later one of David’s sons (David F. Webb) moved to Bowling Green,
Wood County, so it is obvious that the ‘family circle and associations’ kept in
close contact.

DeWitt Clinton, born 17 July 1822 in Homer; Sarah, born 12 June 1824, married
Mahlon Compton; Abigail Pamela, born 18 January 1836, married Wilson Shufeldt. He remarried to Emily Philips Beach on
15 September 1840; their children include Adin A., born 19 June 1841; Emily
Augusta, 24 January 1844, married Charles D. Tillinghast (an attorney in Butte,
Montana); and Lucy Amelia, born 14 November 1845, died 18 January 1861.
By 1840, Betsey (Webb) & John
Beem had moved to Greenfield Township, Huron County, Ohio, several miles south
of the Webb Settlement in Ridgefield Township which was settled by Betsey’s
cousin David Webb. They finally
located to Camden Township, Hillsdale County, Michigan.
